Firm’s Big-Picture Strategy Leads to Amicable Settlement in ICC Arbitration.
WASHINGTON, DC – 4 October 2016. Disan LLP has successfully represented a Chilean sports interest in an international commercial arbitration brought by a US sports management company related to the Association of Tennis Professionals (“ATP”) tennis tournament in Latin America.
The confidential arbitration proceedings were brought pursuant to the Arbitration Rules of the International Court of Arbitration of the Internacional Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”). The matter was governed by the law of Washington DC, with the seat in that city. The matter was resolved amicably under confidential terms.
Margarita R. Sánchez, who acted as lead counsel for the Chilean group, noted that an “ability to approach a legal dispute with business acumen often leads to outcomes from which both parties can benefit. When opposing counsel also has a collaborative approach, arriving at a positive result is that much easier.”
The Chilean sports company is lead by award-winning tennis stars and philanthropists, Jaime and Álvaro Fillol who represented Chile in the prestigious Davis Cup team for almost two decades and have continued being leaders in the field.
“This resolution is in perfect keeping with the Disan dispute resolution philosophy: A focus on the client’s end game and a strategic approach help mitigate risk and eliminate unnecessary peripheral costs and save valuable time.” Said Sanchez.
Disan’s lawyers advising the Chilean company included Margarita R. Sánchez, Bonard Molina-García, Sara Marino*, and Catalina Martinez.
