WASHINGTON, DC.– April 2, 2018.– Margarita R. Sánchez who specializes in international arbitration and global anti-corruption matters in Latin America, has been appointed by the Republic of Colombia to serve in the Panel of Conciliators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
ICSID is the world’s leading international forum for the resolution of investor-state disputes. The ICSID Panel of Conciliators consists of a list of distinguished individuals appointed by ICISD Member States and by the Chairman of ICSID’s Administrative Council. Under the ICSID Convention, each Member State can designate up to four persons to the Panel of Conciliators. The appointment is for a six-year term
Margarita is a dual Colombian-US lawyer with nearly twenty years of experience in Latin American legal matters. She has been repeatedly recognized as a leading practitioner in the U.S. and abroad by several publications including Chambers & Partners and Colombia’s Revista Dinero; making Latinvex’s 2015, 2016, and 2017 lists of “The Top 50 Female International Lawyers for Latin America”. Under her leadership, Disan received the Chambers & Partners award for Outstanding Firm for Furthering Women’s Advancement and was Shortlisted in the category of “Lawyer of the Year”. And in 2016, she was named among the “25 Most Influential Hispanic Lawyers in the United States” by Latino Leaders Magazine.
Margarita has served as counsel of numerous high-profile cases, including multimillion and multi-billion dollar disputes representing sovereign Latin American states and multinationals, in a wide range of disputes arising out of transactions in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. She combines her counsel work with arbitral appointments.
She is also listed on the Panel of International Arbitrators of the Bogota and El Salvador Chambers of Commerce.
